I'm a Teener, You're a Teener, We are Teeners All...
After a couple of years of not having any interesting
piece of automotive history taking up garage
space, I bought a very nice Porsche 914/6 in 2005:
I never did much with it: put in a new pedal cluster, replaced the
windshield-to-top shield. It needed very little. I just sold it
(truck picked it up the first week of Jan 2012).
Here's
an album of pictures.
Mailing Lists, Web Forums
The Internet is awash in 914 support groups of one sort
or another. Here are a few places I've stumbled upon so
far:
- 914world.com
- This site has a very active web-based forum with a very
chatty, very knowledgable group of participants. Many small
specialty suppliers participate in the forum. As of late 2011 it
also hosts Road
Glue, a great place to discuss 914s with a racing
heritage.
- Pelican
Parts
- This vendor is big on forums and tech support, especially for
911s. They run their own forums and have staff members who are
active in other places like 914world. Seem like all around great
folks.
- Rennlist
- This site hosts forums and mailing
lists related to 914s and other Porsche models. Haven't
had a chance to check out the forum much. I recently
subscribed to their 914 mailing list.
Vendors
There are plenty of companies selling all sorts of
parts for 914s, from parts for restoration to go-fast bits.
Here are some I've come across:
- PMB
Performance. Eric Shea is Mr. Rare Porsche Brake. He's a
great guy to boot.
- 914 Limited. Brad Mayeur is
one of the most respected 914 gurus in the country, and he's
practically in my back yard!
- Garold Shaffer's 77+-year-old mom(!) makes
a service
cover many 914 owners swear by (not at). I got me one of
them!
- Dr. Evil is
the transmission
guru of the 914world community.
