Skip's Triumph Ebay Page

Somewhere along the way I got tired of visiting Ebay periodically and scrounging around (and probably missing) for Triumph-related stuff for sale. In addition, my searches seemed to always be cluttered with stuff I wasn't interested in.

A big part of Mojam's day-to-day data gathering is a screen scraper we call the Gig Gopher. Bits of that same technology can be applied to other screen scraping projects. When I wised up to that fact, searching for new stuff at Ebay got a heckuva lot easier. And I didn't have to remember to keep visiting. ;-)

Time passed and I decided to get more formal about it. I eventually created several Triumph-related screen scrapers for various cross-sections of the Triumph hobby, each one delivering a single message per day to a group of subscribers by email. Each auction is listed once when it is first detected and summarized once after it's completed. The new item listing consists of the subject of the auction and a link to it, like so:

    1956 Triumph TR3 2-Ounce Avon Bottle - Full
	    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1098231835
    TRIUMPH Italian Leather Key Fob-TR250 TR3 TR4
	    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1825323153
The completed auction listing shows the subject, the last bid price the number of bids and a link to the item, like so:
TRIUMPH TR4 TR6 STAG WIRE WHEEL HUBS US $102.50 2
            http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1823454808
Note that the last bid price does not mean the item sold.

You can subscribe to any or all of the mailing lists. Pick what you're interested in and sign up:

  • The Big List gets ahold of everything I can find which is Triumph car-related. I've tried to be as careful as possible to eliminate the aforementioned romance novel and motorcycle stuff as I can without sacrificing too many Triumph-related goodies.
  • The Big No-Ad List works like the above list, but tries to exclude most literature which isn't directly related to repairing our cars. Mostly, that means stuff like sales brochures, magazine ads and road test reprints get eliminated for the most part. Technical literature, like repair manuals, should still display.
  • The TR 2/3/4 List tries to get just stuff related to the early four-cylinder TRs.
  • The TR 5/250/6 List tries to get just stuff related to the six-cylinder TRs.
  • The TR 7/8 List tries to get just stuff related to the TR-7 and TR-8.
  • The TR Spitfire/GT6 List tries to get just stuff related to the small-frame Triumphs.
  • The TR Miscellaneous List tries to get stuff the other subset lists miss. This includes the Stag, Herald and Vitesse, as well as multi-marque stuff which mentions Triumph and other British brands, but not any specific model.
Each of the specialized lists attempts to also eliminate sales brochures and ads.

Here's an example of what the daily mailing looks like. It includes both new auctions and recently completed auctions.

I'm fortunate that I have access to Mojam's server to host this stuff. While Mojam doesn't charge anything for it, if you appreciate the service, a donation would be appreciated. If you are looking for a book and Amazon has it, I can set you up with a URL which will lead you to it and return Mojam a referral fee for the sale. Just let me know. You can also leap into Amazon using the tower ad in the right-hand margin.
