For Sale Sold

I sold my Triumph on November 29th, 2003, so I'm now out of the Triumph hobby, at least for the time being.

Details

I'm the third owner. I am led to believe the car was originally sold in California. The guy I purchased it from brought it from California to New York and always garaged it. Just before I bought it he replaced the transmission with a used one. I still have the original (it comes with the car) if you're a numbers freak and want to rebuild it. I believe the engine and paint are both original. Immediately before I bought it (within days) the seller dented the right side rocker panel. That dent remains, but I coated it with Extend or something similar years ago.

I bought the car around 1992 and drove it for a year or so until the right front suspension broke. I kept it garaged until 1999, when I dismantled it enough to properly repair the suspension. I cleaned much of the frame and applied POR-15 to any places which seemed exposed. It you're interested, I have several floppy's worth of JPEGs I took during that work (it's a bzip'd tar file containing 112 JPEG images).

As I put the car back together, I renewed all the bits in the front suspension except for the springs and the trunnions (dunno why I skipped them, probably should have replaced them as well). Most of the removable sheet metal parts in the front end (spring pans, upper and lower A-arms, oil pan guard) were power coated. I painted the springs with POR-15. The result is a well-protected front end.

The car has most of the interior out (the carpets and mats were shot - better to leave the metal exposed in the garage where it can breathe instead of keeping it covered so it can hold water, IMO). The upholstery needs to be replaced, though I did replace the seat diaphragms a few years ago. I bought new window regulators, door check strap assemblies and fuzzy window seals. I managed to put one of the fuzzy strips in, but the rest of the stuff is still in boxes. I probably have a few other tools and parts laying about, thought they won't be immediately at-hand until we get moved into our new house (should be around the first of November 2003).

Miscellaneous Stuff

Over the years I've done various things to try and improve the car in small ways. Aside from the "big job" with the front suspension, I have:

  • replaced the bottom end (main bearings)
  • added a spin-on oil filter adapter
  • replaced the brake hoses and installed a new brake master cylinder
  • reworked the PDWA slightly to stem a leak - no more warning light, but the dual-circuit braking should still work
  • rebuild the carburetors
  • new radiator hoses
  • new heater hose bracket for the firewall

In addition, the previous owner replaced the exhaust system. It's been driven little enough that the Walker sticker is still on the muffler.

I have a number of spares for the car as well (what I can think of off the top of my head - pretty much everything is in storage at the moment):

  • original transmission (needs to be rebuilt)
  • new window regulators
  • new heater valve
  • new window seals

Bottom Line

If you're interested in the car, drop me a line or give me a call (847-971-7098). I'd be happy to discuss it with you. I'm looking for between $3,000 and $4,000 for the car, though I'm open to offers as well.
