Different software handles this differently. It is a good idea to include the _complete_ url, including the "http://" part...some software looks for this. For longer urls that may get broken between two lines, it is further useful to enclose the url between "<>"s.

The url should be typed or pasted in directly as plain text--don't use any fancy "insert url" command your software may include. The "strip mime" function that keeps styled text off of the list will disable that, and you shouldn't use anything but plain text on mailing lists anyway.
