Subject: [Classicrendezvous] Campy Syncro 2 shifters question

I recently acquired a New in Box set of campy syncros 2 shifters in a trade with a batch of Campy C-record items and several campy aero bottles and cages. Question: Are these the syncros shifters that were discussed in the book The Dancing Chain as being campys ill attempt to compete with shimano's index system. One person informed me that the syncros were not indexed and much older than the book indicates, but the book mentions them as indexed and newer. Maybe someone could help clarify this for me. If they are index (which I was hoping they were not), Do they have the friction option, how many speeds were they indexed for? Are these late 80s or what? Thanks
