I think in early 1980s the Colnago had lost some of its
reputation not only among Japanese cyclists but also among
Italians. Once a broken Colnago was hanging at Lupo's shop, and
some customers were speaking ill of Colnago.
But Umberto "Lupo" Mascheroni , ex-mechanic at Legnano, checked
them , explained how the quality of the broken frame was all
right. And he told us that young Ernest Colnago worked very hard.
Clearly he liked Colnago. I could not understand well what he
said and wondered why he seriously defended Colnago. Recently I
found photos of TdF 1962 on the French magazine "Le Cycle" .
Colnago was working alone as a mechanic for Philco team and Lupo
Mascheroni and Umberto Marnati were working for Legnano team.
( Faliero and Alberto Masi for Ignis team) And now I understand
that Lupo was praising young Colnago's hard work as a mechanic.
