Hi Peter,

Pretty wild huh! That is unusual but Genius was very light tubing and it could happen. An interesting trend has been happening at Columbus recently and that is that the tubesets have gotten heavier. For a while there they were making really light tube sets by the name of Genius and Nemo. Both of these tubesets use differential butting, which means it may have been butted in the vertical plane of the tube but not so on the horizontal plain. Nemo for instance was really light and only recommended for riders under 140lbs. When Foco cam out with its usual fanfare I noticed that it weighed 150 grams more than Nemo and even slightly more than Genius. They must have realized they had pushed the older material (Nivacrom) too far and insidiously added some heft. Sometimes I feel like I am the only one who noticed this little fact. Foco is a higher strength material than Nivacrom so maybe Ultra-foco won't be as unreliable as Nemo was but that is yet to be seen.

Sincerely,
David Bohm
