Could the rims have come from late 70's Schwinn stock? Schwinn sold Paramounts with "Schwinn Approved" stickers on the rims. The rims were ferruled and round shouldered, like a Mavic or Super Champion product, not square like the Weinmanns that Schwinn used for a long time or wedge shaped like Fiamme. The description you give points to that as a possibility.
