Hand pressure is determined by both caliper return spring and the ratio of
caliper leverage to brake lever leverage. In addition, modern hidden-cable
levers have a helper spring that decreases the hand pressure
required. Personally, I consider the hand pressure required by the CR and
the universal 68 to be a feature of their low leverage (little lever travel
to move the caliper), and I would change levers rather than springs. Why
not try a hidden-cable lever with more leverage (more lever travel)?
Might help.
