Subject: [Classicrendezvous] Brooks Saddles are Back in Stock at Harris Cyclery

This is a one-time mailing.

Two months ago, financial speculators destroyed the Sturmey-Archer company for short-term profits. Sturmey-Archer was also the owner of the 130 year old Brooks Saddles company. Brooks was shut down as a side effect of the destruction of Sturmey-Archer.

You can read the whole sordid story at: http://www.bikebiz.co.uk/infozone/sturmey_list.php3

For a while it appeared that Brooks would go down along with Sturmey-Archer, and this sparked a flurry of panic buying. We were cleaned out of the more popular models within a few days of the announcement.

Fortunately, however, Brooks was an independent company, in a separate facility in Birmingham. The closure and dispersal of the Nottingham Sturme-Archer plant didn't directly affect Brooks' facility.

After several weeks of uncertainty about the future of Brooks, a management buyout has been arranged from within, and Brooks is back in production. Shipments have resumed, saddles that were held up in the pipeline have been released, and, today, we received a large shipment. Once again, we have most models in stock. Some prices have gone up a bit, others remain the same. For details, check out: http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/saddles.html

We're delighted to be able, once again, to offer the finest saddles in the world. Note that the B-17 Champion Special, the B-17 Titanium and the Swallow (black) were backordered, and are not expected until January. Most other models are in stock.

You can order by email, phone, FAX, snailmail. (Please don't call in telephone orders on weekends.)

We accept all major credit cards. Include the card number and expiration date with your order.

Some people worry about sending credit card numbers in email, although actual fraud using cracked card numbers is very rare (and is the merchant's responsibility, not the cardholder's.) If you are nervous about that, you could break it apart and send it in two separate messages (perhaps omitting such keywords as "visa" "card" "expiration", etc.) Alternatively, you could phone or FAX the information.

Please include all details of your order in the same message, whichever medium you use. FAXes and emails do not go to the same place, so a FAXed credit card number without order specifics will lead to delay and confusion.

All the best,

Sheldon Brown
