Tom, My uncle used to have a Gitane Tour de F model with the "filagree" type drop outs you speak of. It seemed to me that the French did a good job in design and build of these drop-outs. I don't know if other folks were equaly impressed since I have only seen these drop outs twice in my life,and both times they were on a Gitane. Cheers, Dave Anderson
