rick you are so right. richard sachs was out there all weekend(and a bitter, blustery weekend it was) making sure everything was perfect on his rider's bikes. what a feeling that must be to head into a race with the likes of richard sachs as your team mechanic. no excuses about the bike. of the photos i have posted so far of the event, you will see a couple of the sachs clan. one on bicycle chronicles you will notice a humble figure in a sachs team jacket knelt on the ground, er, i mean snow(please note that it was about 5 degrees that day with 30+ mph winds) wiping all the gunk off a derailer and chain. that figure is richard sachs. a nicer guy i never meet. and the frames, well, no need to tell you folks. overall a great event. though it seems we all have our perceptions, i thought the ratio was more than 50% steel though there were only a handful lugged. lots of barcons too. lots of those prefab wheels though. mostly tubular. nearly all the pros i talked to prefer those since they still roll(and yes, roll off) even when flat. that can make quite a difference when the pit might be nearly 1/2 mile away. anyway. what a weekend, had a blast(artic that is) peace sarah
