Now is the time to buy from the UK. With the pound trading at less than $1.50, it is as low as it's been in decades. For anyone interested in frame refinishing of the highest quality, and not over-refinishing as many here in the US achieve, I recommend that Argos Cycles of Bristol, England be considered (tel number and address on CdO page). Here's an example: I just purchased a nice late 50's Holdsworth path racer, complete for around $200 plus shipping. The frame needs refinishing. Since I will use the bike for frequent, around town errands and things, I cannot be too concerned about protecting decals and such, and want a finish that I can maintain. Argos will do the entire frame, after shot-blasting, lug filing and detailing, and chrome (triple step process) the headlugs and fork crown for 140 pounds, shipping is 20 pounds. There is no import duty nor VAT. Well, doing the math at current $1.47/pound and the final cost is $235. That is a deal!!! Chroming alone on the west coast will cost that much.

I have done a few projects with Argos in the past and I have always been pleased. Good communication is essential, and be specific as to what you want.

Good luck and keep these things on teh road.
