This is the standard problem of using a spindle that is designed to be used in a 68mm BB shell on an Italian BB shell that's 70mm. Sometimes you can do this if you don't mind only a couple threads used for the lockring. Another thing that may be happening is you might be using a spindle designed for "thick" cups with "thin" cups. Other list members will be able to tell you what models and years the "thick" vs. "thin" cups happened. Campy did make Italian triple BB's because I have one for my Euclid crank and I've seen older 70-SSx3 spindles. The "68" or "70" designates the BB shell width.
