Subject: [CR]Dating a Carlton Flyer

I have a Carlton Flyer track bike with some odd components that need replacing. To make sure I do this appropriately, I would like to get an approximate date of manufacture. It is quite typical: simple pointed lugs, flat fork crown that looks like two plates but isn't, round section fork blades, Campagnolo track ends, all chrome finish, red white and blue head-badge with picture of cyclist and "Carlton Cycles Ltd Worksop England", Carlton Flyer script transfer on seat tube, no Carlton transfers on down tube (probably cleaned off -- anyone know what they shoul look like?). Serial number is G496. Apparently Carlton serial numbers are a bit of an enigma -- asked V-CC marque enthusiast who is still trying piece the puzzle together. Best guess so far seems to be about 1960. Does anybody have any better information?

Best wishes for 2001
