I know Bilenky used Amtrak when shipping my fiancee her Viewpoint tandem last year, and while I don't remember the price, it was quite reasonable compared to truck freight. The only hassle was having to pick the bike up at an Amtrak station, but if there's a station convenient to you that does baggage, it sounds like a reasonable way to go.
