I think what Ken says about large batch orders may be true; both of my Raleigh Internationals have the Record steel pedals with the 1037 <c> stamped into the top of the body, and some SL pedals I pulled from a '77 Paramount have some numbers stamped into the inside of the cages before anodizing. I also have some 1037 pedals with the plastic end caps, AND the loop... so I suspect they went plastic before the loop was dropped.
