My earlier question about Masi decals has turned up an unrelated little oddity I thought someone might be able to answer. Richard Sachs noticed the lack of a flange on the head lugs of the Masi I recently purchased. Now I never noticed this before, but since it was pointed out i went looking at other photos of Masis to see if they had similar details. All of the bikes I could locate photos for had the flange, while some was too hard to tell. My question then is: is this a modification someone made after the fact or is it original? I see no reason why someone would remove the flange, but then I have no info on the bike before it was sold to me. My '63 Cinelli has similar missing flanges on its head lugs.
