Group-- While building up a set of wheels with NOS Maxi-Car hubs for my Singer a couple of years ago, I discovered, after the wheels were laced and the tires installed, that the freewheel wouldn't screw on. Simple solution, Get a French threaded freewheel, Right? Wrong! That didn't work, either. l Upon close inspection, it was discovered the the British threads were indeed left handed. Anybody got a solution/reason for this one? :-) Nelson Miller in SUNNY Seattle

Back in the 70s, I actually HAD a track bike with the chain on the left side! I'd read that a few trackies were experimenting with left-side drive because it was supposed to give better clearance on a banked track. So I took my $75 Gitane track bike and reversed the cranks and wheel and took it over to the Northbrook track one afternoon just to find out. It actually seemed to work out OK... then one of my friends pointed out that everytime I pedaled hard, I'd be trying to unthread the cog!

I kept it around for awhile as we took our kids to the Thursday night races, and it was a pretty good conversation piece! But I put the cranks right side around before I rode it any.
