Jerry - You could stretch the point with Superbe and Avocet, but why not try to go American High tech of the period? Yes Phil pedals are OK for 1977, but how about scouting up some East Rochester Tool and Die Titanium pedals? On my MIT brother-built aluminum frame (a la Klein) of that year, I had the ER pedals on Campy cranks, the Teledyne BB, Phil hubs, Rigida 13-19s, Suntour Cyclone derailleurs and shifters, Suntour alloy freewheel, Galli Ti brakes, SR Superlight bars and stem, a Selle Italia "Specialissimo Titanio" saddle (no it wasn't titanium, just called that), The Selle Italia SL seatpost (later sold as Avocet), an Edco alloy headset, Pino Moroni skewers, Alloy crank and seat and stem and chainwheel bolts, Cinelli alloy toe clips, a TA alloy cage, silca pump with plastic Campy SL end, and Oh yeah, a Davidson Fork. There were not yet any trustworthy aluminum forks. The bike weighed an honest 18 lbs. It still languishes in my bro's garage. I gave it to him after a number of years since he had made the frame and I had too many bikes.
