I still have a bike with a 52T bio-pace ring and a 39T round ring. The bigger Bio-pace rings were much rounder than the small rings, and as a result, there was very little effect on shifting, and I really can't tell the difference between Bio-pace and round when I switch between bikes. If anyone is interested, I have an article on Bio-pace rings clipped from an old issue of Bicycle Guide. IIRC, they were indeed intended for (and tested on) riders with low pedaling cadences. BTW, I still have the 42T (or was it 39T?) Bio-pace ring in a box somewhere, just in case they have suddenly become valuable! :-)
