To be a little more exact:

The Nuovo Tipo (New Type) hub was not a replacement for the Gran Sport hub. The Gran Sport (steel barrel w/ alloy flanges) was Campagnolo's original hub (from FB) and was top quality, like its replacement, the Record hub (all alloy). The Tipo was a new "economy" hub and therefor not the Gran Sport's replacement.
