This odd duck showed-up on eBay (see last 4 pictures in the GS/Val photoalbum:

Looks like someone has cobbled together a Campy chain guide #1029 (see: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u25372&a663429&pA769151&Sequence=0&res=high ) and a Valentino pill box.

BUT... It has the single-bore rod of the Valentino, but the smaller cast-in clamp area of the earlier GS (compare to pic: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u25372&a609883&pA143023&Sequence=0&res=high ). Plus, it has a snout like the Valentino, only shorter.

Is this an early Valentino, or some other interime step between the two?
