A couple of interesting Stump stories:

The bike I used to see him riding more than his own creation was a Hurlow--Hurlow fans take note. One time when his first bike was to be a display piece at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, he rode the bike over from Santa Monica with two rolls of fresh tape in his pocket, retaped the bars, put the bike in the display and took the bus home! This from Grant Handley: At the end of WWII Art was stationed in Britain, don't know what branch of the service. The Allies had siezed lots of interesting German hardware including an Auto-Union race car which had been made for Formula I races in the prewar era. Art was recruited by somebody who knew somebody who knew him and knew of his mechanical skill and car knowledge to figure out how to start and drive the one-off car and drive it to some storage facility; Mr. Stump got to drive British highways in a car that was made for racing on the Avus speedway.
