There is certainly a good bit of subjectivity in grading components. Several sellers of parts who are list members, for example Mike Kone and John Barron, are extremely tough graders. If those guys call something "excellent", you have to really look closely to tell it from NOS. Other people in hobby are a bit more lax in grading.
