Dales observation about the look of new tape on old bikes set me to thinking about how I and others 'dress out' our classics for everyday use.

I do ride my bikes -- on nice days -- if they're assembled. If I were so bold as to show one of my bikes I would wrap the bars in the appropriate model and period correct tape, and install the proper seat and clipless pedals.

When I ride my Masi GC, for example, I take the Unicantor saddle off and replace it with a Team Pro (it helps to have extra seatposts). Clipless pedals are substituted for the NR toe clips. I keep cork bar wrap with Velox plugs on the bikes, but have considered putting the vinyl stuff on and wrapping the cork over it (However, I am concerned about slippage).

Am I slipping into heresy, apostasy and perdition? Are others similarly afflicted? I suppose one problem is a lack of positive peer pressure here in New Orleans. The only other guy in town who would notice or care is Bill Laine at Wallingford.
