I have ridden them since about 1983. Used to ride them a lot, not so much lately, but still have some. Never broke one myself, but have seen two that had cracks radiating from the holes that the pawls pivot on (visible from the back of the freewheel body). I would think they were a single-stage (one day's use) for a pro, or a Sunday ride item for that special bike for us civilians.

I think a couple of missed shifts in the heat of battle when the red mist descends over the eyes could easily crack the body. They are lovely things though, and were Tullio Campagnolo's last project before he died.

I actually bought a NOS in the box one at the Great Western Bike Rally a few years ago for $30! <grin>
