RE: Pinnacle of the vintage lightweight era?

Nostalgia plays an important part of ones appreciation of the finer things in life. The pinnacle for me was gazing into the front window of a lightweight bicycle shop in the northern extremities of London sometime in the 1950¹s, and being fixated by a Les Ephgrave #1 frame with all the top equipment of the day. This included a swivel bar front changer and tubular rims which were much sought after items at that time. The frame looked beautiful in Burgundy with Gold outlined fancy hand cut lugs and matching EPHRGRAVE decal in Old English on the down tube. By today¹s standards this colour scheme would be considered ultra conservative but what an impact it made! Sure, there have been tremendous technological changes since then but to me the british Frame Age of the fifties when 531db and Cromo ruled the roads, represents the most individually artistic and interesting period of lightweight bicycle design.
