I tend to agree with Chuck about there being no vintage tandem collectors. Witness the old, cool Paramount tandems that sometimes show up on eBay and also tend to get no bids. They look really nice, but are usually not real easy to handle, nor are they particularly comfortable for the stoker with their significantly shorter rear top tubes than more recent frames.
I think the problem is that tandem technology has become far more advanced since Santana went into production in 1976, and in particular the frames are much more efficient (and comfortable) than they were back in the "pre- boom" years. Tandem sales in the US have increased something like tenfold in the last decade or so I seem to recall.
