I gotta tell ya that IMHO not admitting to design flaws has everything to do with money (the manufacturer's) and absolutely zip to do with ego. Especially in today's "litigious environment," manufacturers are loathe to admit to anything remotely sounding like a design flaw. The crankarm design was flawed, they knew it, we know it, everyone knows it; they redesigned it. They would never admit to it though; their legal staff would definitely advise them strongly against that. Large and even medium Corporations have significant staffs in place just for the handling of potential consumer product safety issues, and the employees of said companies are instructed to turn the situation over to those experts whenever they uncover a potential recall issue.

That said, cranks break. Various parts break. From various manufacturers. I've been riding NR/SR cranks for almost a quarter of a century & haven't busted one yet.....

P.S. those crappy Ti-axled SR pedals too please....

RE: Re: [CR]Broken Retro Crank Website

Campy wasn't worried about lawsuits. They were worried they may be thought of as other than perfect. It's the same attitude that caused them to go from the biggest to smallest component manufacturer with in three years. One of the reasons people love Campagnolo is because of the "we're the best" attitude. It's hurt them before and it'll hurt them again, you can bet on it.
