We're talking a very small change within the official 9/16" x 20 thread spec., right?

It must be an issue of fit classification; I've seen NOS NR crankarms where you could barely get an NOS NR pedal to thread in with greased threads and a pedal wrench.(Usually LH). I've actually chased the threads on an NOS arm or two. My guess is they were worried about LH pedals falling out due to under-tightening. Hey, Tullio's gang wasn't perfect, just pretty damn good in their timeframe. Keep in mind just when much of the stuff was designed...

Remember: one of the good things about Tullio was that he didn't often change his designs; however, one of the bad things was that he didn't often change his designs!!

I'd heard something like that, but I'd actually heard they changed the "tooth" profile of the threads to a more rounded at some time. I don't know if the actual size of the hole changed or not. Keep us up to date.
