Did they have a just a warehouse, or were they an incorporated company? My information comes from industry stuff from '89. I remember a press release from around that time about the creation of Campys US branch. I may be wrong, but you don't seem to have the answers either. Where's your information from?

Dale and other shop owners who've been working in the bicycle industry much longer that I should have better information. I'm more than willing to be proven wrong.

The Campagnolo name I have seen as Campi, but even this has no corelation to the English or Italian language. I've seen Campag, which I can understand since it's just a shortening of a name. I think Campy came from Campi and Campi was someone mispronouncing Campagnolo.
