Brandon, and all. You are right. It is no sruprise at all for those super auction prices brought by Japanese collectors. They were paying back war restitution until 1964 or so for all over the Asia even though US Marshall Plan aids went into Japan right after war.

During 50's and 60's, they could not afford ANYTHING extra such as fine sporting goods as racing bike. There was hardly any imports bike parts as you can imagine.

In 1968, I recall 6 to 7 weeks of part time job 120 to 140 hours of my pay bought a Campy Record crank/chain wheel set. It means roughly 800.00 dollars today's money. If it were in1950's, it was impossible to purchase such imported parts.

Today, those hard working middle age collectors are buying back "OLD GOODIES" from their missed youth time. Since their currency worth 3 to 4 times more now therefore; the Record crank set would be 2,400.00. This is totally acceptable FUZZY MATH among the Japanese collector, isn't it??

Of course, I will not pay 2400.00 for NOS Record crankset to recover 33 years of past time(or missing link?). I joined in American side of game!

KEN TODA, I still have the original Campy box and instruction paper from 1968.
