Subject: [CR]Posting announcements of personal Ebay auctions on CR

I received a private a note recently complaining about a posting by a CR member to our group announcing an auction by that person on Ebay.

Below is my response which I wanted to share with you all to clarify my view of the matter....

<< Do the rules not say only firm price FS ads are allowed on CR? >>

Yes, but I think it's permissible because announcing that you have something of interest to us on Ebay all seems rather innocuous to me.. It's become such an ordinary state of affairs. 'Course I wish they would be nice (and not financially acquisitive!) and offer it to the CR folks first for a firm & fair price but that is certainly not an obligation. It is hard to expect people not to act in what they see is their best interest.

The purpose of the "firm price" rule is to keep sellers from using the CR to jack up prices or start a bidding war on the CR. That situation already exists on Ebay and drawing our attention to that predetermined circumstance is still something I would like to know! I certainly wish I had a chance to buy some of these items in a non-auction, straight up purchase, but if that it not going to be, at least I like to know the stuff is up for auction...
