Not sure about 27 x 1 1/4 specifically, but the big mail order houses still sell some 27" tires, including some IRC and Continental models. Since these guys don't sell vintage stuff, I'd guess the tires are either still being made or were only recently discontinued. 27" are definitely becoming rarer, though, and the selection of widths is limited. Sheldon and other vintage vendors still have a pretty good selection of 27" tires, though, some of them NOS rather than recent production.

I've noticed the availability of good 27"x1 1/4" tires getting slim in recent years. Have they stopped making them and the current stock will dry up in the next few years? My current wheels have been trouble free for over ten years and I hate to mess with a good thing. I also don't think the bike would look right with 700c wheels.
