I've heard that many of the front hubs, or at least their axle sets, are from Taiwan, specifically the ones that use a 13 mm cone wrench; Veloce, et. al.

I still remember the shock of the first Veloce group I installed; not just the cheesiness of the front hub, the part that really knocked me over was the nut part of the seatpost clamp, which looked like something from Wald!
