Maybe it's something about Seattle. . . no I guess it can't be that since I've seen one broken bar in Bloomington, Indiana, a couple on Portland, Oregon, and two here in Santa Barbara in the last 6 months. I've seen Cinelli bars break right next to the stem and just inside of the shim. I'd guess that the crack starts just at the edge of the shim. I find it really weird that so few people on this list have seen broken bars. If a bar breaks next to the stem I think the problem is more with a bur in the stem, not some imperfection in the bars. I used to keep broken parts but finally recycled them. Maybe it's one of those things like cracks in the Campagnolo crank spider or pedal eye, some people have seen a bunch others none. Like I said I've never personally broken a set of bars, but have seen the aftermath. I'll assume everyone on the list has seen broken AVA bars? Anyway, next time I see a pair of broken bars I'll take a picture of them. enjoy, monkeyman
