I have just found 2 photos of Merckx's bikes made by DeRosa. The
Molteni bike 1974 has traditional chainstays but the Fiat bike
1977 has the patented diamante chainstays. Both have short
dropouts and non-engraved seatstay caps. Both have same press
lugs but apparently the former has well-filed lugs. The both rear
brake cables run on BB shell and chainstay .
It seems Merckx did not allow to have seatstay caps engraved on
the contrary to Moser.( I saw a Moser bike with a head decal of
Moser's portrait for sale at a shop in Brianza. It had seatstay
caps engraved DeRosa. ) But I imagine that if Ugo had the
diamante stays in 1974, he could not help giving up using those
stays on Merckx bike.
