Anglophiles old enough to remember the 1940s might be able to shed some light on my latest acquisition.

It's an F.C. Parkes Lightweight, made in Birmingham by Sun according to Dale's website, and was found at my LBS-also known as the municipal dump (it beats McDonald's as a lunchtime destination any day and, despite the rats, is probably much healthier).

This is a 531-framed bike, I think, and has a B17 saddle beyond salvation, GB Hiduminium brakes, Super Hood levers, Huret chainring, cranks I haven't ID'd yet, Simplex Criterium (I think) derailler, front mech and DT shifter, and pretty average quality replacement wheels that are bound for a return journey to their most recent home.

Any information about the quality of this bike-I believe it was a top model in its day-and any hints on dating the frame would be much appreciated.

Nick Tithecote lists F. C. Parkes transfers but they seem to be the later, post Raleigh takeover type so any source for these would also be very welcome.

Thanks, Bruce
