Looking through this I noticed an anomoly. The Tech specs for the Competiton Mk II claim it has a 531 fork with an "integral sloping crown" and Campy ends, like the Pro's. See:

Not sloping there, is it ? Also, my earlier Competition with Jubilee derailers has Huret dropouts in the rear and I wonder if the Mk II really had Campy dropouts in 1974 with the Jubilee derailer set ? Odd, on my bike, is that though it has the Huret rear dropouts, the Jubilee rear derailer is designed for Campy dropouts so there is a bent plate washer as an adapter so the B-tension screw on the derailer has something to press against !
About my Competition's fork, well...you might remember it got trashed when I got punctured last Friday (getting better fast, riding every day to the amazement of the medical profession seems to be really helping, but Valinda's down for maybe a long time with a torn knee muscle :-( ...anyway, the fork has turned out to be an inexpensive (Tange ?) replacement fork with stamped dropouts, so I don't know for sure what was originally on the bike. So, at least I didn't damage anything valuable when I crashed, except for myself and Valinda. I'm worried about Valinda, but I can fix the Raleigh with your help maybe.
This leaves me making a plaintive plea to my CR friends - I need a fork, please ! The old fork is Very Large since this is a 25 1/2" C-T Raleigh Competition, so the fork is a 1" English-threaded with a 242 mm steerer tube, set up for 27" wheels and long reach Raleigh/Weinmann 610 center-pull brakes out as far as they will go. The threading extends down about 1 inch from the end, which is short.
This steerer is really 19 1/2" long ! Not likely to find a replacement easily since modern bikes don't believe in such excesses (imagine a 19+ inch carbon fiber steerer for a moment...hee-hee...), but you might have one ?
I cannot afford to have a new one built and the old one is both twisted in several directions and cheap anyway, so not worth repairing. I just want to ride this bike again, so if anyone can help me out, I'd love to hear from you. Bikes this size are rare at the Thrift Stores I usually shop at.
Rode the Gitane TdF today and miss the Raleigh all the more because of that.
