In 1950 Australian Jack Hoobin won the World Amateur Road Championship held in Belgium. In the period following his win ads in Australian magazines referred to the fact that he used "Prior" hubs, pedals, bracket axle and clutch and "Cauchero" single tape. The ads carry the name of a local agent and reference to: Etblts. M. Maillard, Constructor, Inchville (Seine Inferieure), France. The ads also reefer to the brand names Atom and Mega. I have seen a number of "Prior" components on Australian bikes of the late 1940s and early 1950 and have a racing bike from 1950 with a "Prior" front hub. So, was "Prior" and early brand name of Maillard or related to Maillard in some way?
