I have to speak up here. There is a very nice saw guide available from Park(SG-1) that makes all of this (except the slot) easy. You install the headset compleate except for the top lock nut, thread on the saw guide and cut the steerer. When you thread off the guide, it chases the threads. It sets the hight correct for a standard lock nut. I guess it may be considerd too easy by some... ;-)
