Subject: [CR]Velo Rendezvous A Success!

I'd like to offer congratulations and sincere thanks to Chuck Schmidt on the SUCCESSFUL conclusion of his FIRST Velo Rendezvous event. Everything went off well. Great venues, great folks and great turnout of bikes! I don't have the capability of loading up digital photo from this home computer, but I'm sure those of you who missed it will have the opportunity to view many images quite soon. I don't know the exact counts, but I estimate there were more than 76 participants, and nearly as many showbikes.

Highlights for me were:

Meeting friends and clients face to face, many for the first time.

Especially nice to see Gino Londi having a good time among his beloved bikes. Gino is a fine gentleman, with a huge heart and psssion for bicycles and family. He's had some hardship lately and his attendence was in doubt, I'm so happy he was able to make it.

Always a nice ride, first time I've done this route on the Singer Randonneur.

Dennis Crowley's inroduction to Pasadena and it's cycling history was thrilling, and he has score another incremental victory on his campainge to resurect the Pasadena bikeway in that there will be a major ride on the scenic, & Historic Pasdena freeway that replaced it when the road it temporily closed next year during the next Velo Rendevous!

Bret Horton's presentation on collecting done right was wonderful!

The group dinners were great fun, and confirmed the high esteem I have for Pasaenda's fine restaurants. Saturday night 35 or so of us enjoyed the outrageous family/party style Buca di Beppo Itailan restaurant. Susan and I waddled happily back the hotel but could only groan at the free gourment cookies in the lobby! We will rememeber the great food, conversation and over-the-top decor for many years.

So many gorgeous bikes! Easily the best display of vintage iron I've seen anywhere!

Chuck said what I felt many times while producing my Concours d' CyclArt events, "I don't want to run an event like this, I just wanted to attend one!" Here here! I'm so grateful that someone has finally picked up the baton and gone with it! Nice work! I look forward to next year!
