And now, the most hotly debated mystery in years is solved. Stranger than the Bermuda Triangle. More mystyfying than crop circles. Odder than Stonehenge. More contentious than the second shooter theory! It is >THE FIFTEENTH TEAM<!

15. Zappas/Splendor!

The team wore Blue Jerseys with red sleeves and side panels. The best identification is from the team car, especially in the scene late in the race where the peleton is chasing the two Brooklyn breakaways, and the team cars bounce over the rail tracks. The Zappas car is between the Raleigh and Flandria cars. Obviously Zappas wasn't one of the powerhouse teams, as they never got a rider into the lead group where the cameras would linger on him, and more importantly, his jersey and bike!

Of course this raises the question of whether the Maes Pils-Rokado team were also riding Splendor bikes, as we thought earlier. Was Rokado a brand of bicycle?

Thanks to the eagle eyes of Aldo Ross, Dave Feldman, Martin Copland and others we have identified the following teams and their rides, and did the hard work on Team 15. The Big Four have nothing on us.

Hi Tom,

OK... so we've got the following:

1. Gan/Mercier 2. Peugeot-Esso/Peugeot 3. Brooklyn/Gios Torino 4. TI Raleigh/Raleigh 5. Bianchi Campy/Bianchi 6. Gitane Campy/Gitane 7. Flandria/Flandria 8. Sanson/Benotto 9. JSBoerke/Colnago 10. Molteni/Merckx (Probably DeRosa by this date) 11. Jobo/La France 12. Maes Pils-Rokado/Splendor 13. Miko-deGribaldy/Superia 14. Lejeune-BP/Lejeune

I'll look over the video again tonight - I thought the blue and red jerseys were Maes Pils, but I'll try to find some still pictures tonight as well.

Regards, Aldo (drums beating in my head again, with the men's chorus singing "PAAA-REEEE. PAAA-REEE-RUUU-BAAAAY")
