There are some pads out there that look just like Mafac but are dangerous. I've had them heat up on one big downhill (its Colorado, we have big mountains and switchbacks) and literally have melted through half the pad in a mile or two - you loose stopping power and then you get this giant black streak on the rim that is a pain to remove. For use on the flats they may be fine, but out here they can kill. The ones we came upon like this don't say Mafac but otherwise seem nearly identical.
