My best guesstimate is that the "Open C" on the shift and q.r. levers changed to "Closed C" in 1958 with the introduction of the Record one-piece alloy hubset that year. Of course there would still be the older "Open C" in the pipeline a year or two after that date.

Incidentally, the shift levers have seen lots of _very subtle_ changes over the years in thickness, overall length, and lettering style. At least six variations of the "bumpy style" the last time I checked.

Anyone else have any additional info?
