Subject: [CR]Jobst Brandt Info

To all CR list members:

The following is a brief update regarding Jobst Brandt, cycling legend and author of the book The Bicycle Wheel. He is a very close friend of mine and was my mentor when I first started racing back in 1978. Jobst inspired me to have the courage to ride my bike alone through the Swiss and Italian Alps in the fall of 1981 when I was 21 years old. Something I never imagined would be possible.

* * * Jobst received a new mitral valve for his heart on Monday, October 15. Heart surgeons at Stanford Hospital installed a man-made mitral valve. Today, Tuesday, he is fully awake, fit, and recovering at Stanford Hospital. Family and doctors anticipate his continued excellent recovery.

After many years of extraordinary physical achievement on his bicycle, the damage to his mitral valve as the result of childhood rheumatic fever began to impair his bicycling and threatened his future. We all look forward to what he'll do next...

As Jobst has been known to say: Ride Bike!
