Subject: [CR]Classic bike racers showing at the Miami Classic

Just came back from the the Miami Cycling Classic. The course is a one miler in Miami's downtown at Bayside. All the divisions were represented: Pro, Cat 5, Cat 4, Cat 3, women's, Masters 40-49, and Masters 50 and up. The Cat 5's and 4's and 3's all averaged about 2 to 2.25 minutes per mile. The Masters classes were 2.0 to 2.75 minute mile averages. The women's division averaged 2.5 minutes to 3 minutes per mile. Of all the 100 to 200 entries there was exactly one classic bike equipped with dt shifters and classic steel lugged frames. Some classic frames had been converted to Sti of course. The one late 70's gorgeous Lotus with chromed lugs and full period Campy was ridden by a man who turned in (you guessed it) a 3 minute mile average for 10 miles. I should have entered because I already know my time would have been under 2.5 minutes average, and I could have made a showing for classicism while still placing at the top of the last third in the Masters.
