That was my understanding, that it was warranty replacement (there is also the "PAT. 11" rear derailleur too) . Someone else offered the opinion that there were way too many made for it to signify a warranty item.

Of course you come away from this forum with the impression that the Campagnolo Record crank was breaking with the least little provocation!
