In answer to a couple of queries, it seems Mr Carrington the framebuilder was not the most reasonable of men and a bit difficult to get along with.

He apparently didn't want to pass any company info to the new owners for two reasons: that the heirs to the AS Gillott estate (Mr Gillott's sisters) prohibited it and Mr Carrington felt that the Gillott designs would be lacking in integrity if he no longer had a hand in the operation and quality control.

He, therefore, did not want the same frame designs, serial numbers, etc, passed on but believed that the new owners should start from scratch.

Consequently, it is apparently quite easy to spot quality differences betweena newer, post Edwardes Gillotts and an original.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the frame I'm after at the moment has never been near anyone called Edwardes...
